Understanding The Existing Dangers Of Remote Weapons When You Think There Are None

Posted on

When you see people operating drones and high-tech weapons from remote locations both in movies and in military recruiting commercials, you are inclined to think it is pretty cool. You may also think that would be an incredibly safe way to serve your country. Yet, there are real dangers involved with remote weapons. That is why there is remote weapons safety training involved when you decide to sign up with a branch of the military with the intent and purpose of becoming a remote operator of these high-tech weapons. Here are some of those dangers to help you understand and know that these dangers exist before you move forward with your plans to learn this career and serve your country.

Ingenious Foreign Hackers

The biggest danger you will ever face as a remote operator of weapons are ingenious foreign hackers. These computer and tech weapons hackers are able to tap into the system you are using and turn the weapons around or turn the weapons onto the vehicle in which you are sitting. If you are operating a drone and that drone suddenly turns around and heads back to base with bombs intact and armed, you and your entire base are at risk. It would be up to you to hack the foreign hacker's hack and listen to your C.O. in regards to what to do next, whether you blow that drone up in the air, or work in a frenzy to stop the return of the drone. Luckily, this does not happen that often, but you are trained for it in case it does.

Jammed Weapons

Some of these remote weapons are not that far from your current position. In fact, a lot of the weapons are mounted to the very vehicle in which you are riding with fellow soldiers. The location of weapons in relation to your operating position has to do with being able to fire on enemies without leaving the safety of the military vehicle. That is a great safety feature for everyone in the vehicle, but if weapons are jammed (as guns are wont to do from time to time), your remote operation of them will be for naught. The next part of your training will teach you how to un-jam the weapon without getting killed. Sometimes the best solution is to replace the weapon at the next available moment of gun silence, but you will have to learn how to do this with incredible speed and accuracy.
